Keyboard Cat Cross Stitch

August 27, 2009

As some of you know, soon after the 8-Bit Keyboard Cat video that I created with Doctor Octoroc, a very talented cross stitch artist created a pattern of my illustration. I would’ve been extremely flattered except that she was selling the pattern through her website. After some back and forth, she agreed to take it down and was even kind enough to send me the profits. With that behind us, we are actually collaborating on a few things (including a piece for an upcoming book on the nerd craft scene) and will hopefully work out a deal to sell some patterns in the future.

I did want to share a cross stitch of Keyboard Cat that one of her customers completed. This was made by Arielle Brousse, who happens to be a fellow Philadelphian.

8-Bit and Beyond! (plus interviews!)

August 6, 2009

Tomorrow night at 6pm is the opening of the Autumn Society’s “8-Bit and Beyond!” show at Brave New Worlds. You can read an interview with myself and two of the other incredibly talented artists here. In addition to the fantastic artwork, Doctor Octoroc will be providing live musical chip tune entertainment, playing music from classic video games, 8-bit covers of 80s television shows (from his upcoming “After These Messages” album), as well as some originals. There will be a “name that tune” contest too, so you just might score a copy of his latest album. Get there early!

My piece is title “Mushroom Recession” and you can read more about it here and here.
