Los Angeles (Part II) – Ups and Downs, Strikes and Gutters

August 30, 2008

After the I Am 8-Bit party, some friends took me to the darkest bar in LA, The Woods.

We capped the night off with a viewing of Point Break, in anticipation of possibly checking out the hilariously awful Point Break Live (we didn’t). During the ride back to the loft I was subletting in Venice I was treated to some beautiful lightning. Read the rest of this entry ?

Los Angeles (Part I) – I Am 8-Bit 2008

August 29, 2008

I just got back from a two week stay in Los Angeles. I had work in two shows, the fourth annual I Am 8-Bit show and the second annual Crazy 4 Cult show. I have quite a few photos, videos, and things to say, so I’m going to be splitting this up into several blog posts. My first one will focus on the I Am 8-Bit show, which was held at the World of Wonder Storefront Gallery. Read the rest of this entry ?

Manifest Hope 8-Bit Style

August 25, 2008

Here’s my New Game piece on display at the Manifest Hope show in Denver. The chiptune artist Doctor Octoroc did a sweet 8-Bit version of will.i.am’s Yes We Can song that attendees could listen to on the headphones below the piece. You can listen to it here:

Manifest Hope

August 10, 2008

I was asked to contribute a piece to Shepard Fairey’s Manifest Hope show, which will correspond with the Democratic National Convention in Denver, CO from August 24th-28th. The curator thought it would be cool to have an 8-Bit version of will.i.am’s “Yes We Can” song playing alongside the piece, so my brother will be composing this for the show. This is one opening I really wish I could attend, considering they are having musical performances from Death Cab for Cutie, Moby, and Clap Your Hands Say Yeah.

Crazy 4 Cult

August 10, 2008

Here are two pieces I did for Gallery 1988’s Crazy 4 Cult show based on the movie Office Space. The opening is Friday, August 22nd from 7-11pm. Kevin Smith is hosting it, and last year’s show drew a lot of celebs, including Samuel L. “Muthafucking Snakes” Jackson. I’m flying out to LA for the opening, so stop by and say hi!

I Am 8-Bit 2.008

August 2, 2008

I will be participating again in the annual I Am 8-Bit show, which opens on Thursday, August 14th at the World of Wonder Storefront Gallery, and runs until Sunday, September 7th. More info on the show here. I’ll be flying out to LA on the 12th and staying through the 26th (I have work in another show on the 22nd, more on that in my next post), so if you’re in the area come out to the opening and say hi! But get there early, as the line to get in literally will be around the block, if previous years are any indication of the show’s popularity. Read the rest of this entry ?
